Before joining Burhill I was working in my first role with another logistics company but couldn’t really see where I could make a career for myself, so when I saw a job advertised with Burhill in their Commercial Team I applied and was successful.
A couple of months after joining my manager mentioned to me that she thought I would be an ideal candidate for the International Freight Forwarding Level 3 apprenticeship scheme and I’m glad she did. I had friends doing other apprenticeships in different industries but hadn’t thought of one myself.
The course is over a year and covers all aspects of logistics through a mix of online modules, assignments, and presentations. In addition, you need to demonstrate 450 hours of on-the-job learning which can also include job shadowing, research, and reading. The combination of the two elements is useful – as well as working towards the qualification, it has helped improve my performance at work too as you can apply what you learn straight away, so it is more meaningful.
“The support from Burhill has been great and I am so pleased I took the opportunity to be better skilled through this scheme.“
I’d really like to go on to do more training courses when I can and my aim is to keep moving up in the company as there is so much scope.
The best bit? I found out I have been awarded a Distinction so I couldn’t be more pleased.
